Three major parties meet, to take decisions Thrusday
Kathmandu, March 26: A meeting of the three major political parties – the Nepali Congress, the CPN (UML) and the UCPN (Maoist) – held at the Prime Minister’s residence at Baluwatar today decided to finalise its consensus decisions tomorrow only.
The major parties began the meeting on Tuesday in connection with the implementation of the four-point agreement reached among them in the past and the seven-point agreement reached between the Nepali Congress and the CPN (UML).
Although the top leaders of the major three parties agreed to constitute a high-level political committee for constitution writing and for continuing the talks and discussions to that end and to immediately push ahead with the remaining issues of the peace process, they could not reach to a decision in today’s meeting due to lack of time.
“Discussions were held in the meeting regarding the peace process, constitution writing and the management of the transitional politics,” Nepali Congress General Secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula said, adding that the three major parties had positive discussions for implementing the past agreements.
Agreement has been reached to form a parliamentary investigation committee for addressing the concerns raised by the UCPN (Maoist) regarding the Constituent Assembly election and for carrying out a study on the recent price hike. The next meeting of the three parties scheduled for 8 am tomorrow would finalise it, he added.
The meeting also held discussions on the topic of immediately forming the parliamentary committees to advance the constitution writing task, constituting the constitutional council and appointing ambassadors to different countries.
Stating that an agreement has already been made in connection with forming the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Commission of Inquiry on Disappearances, UCPN (Maoist) leader Post Bahadur Bogati said positive discussions have been held on all topics that have been made public and the rest of the topics would be finalised in tomorrow’s meeting.
