Narendra lal Shrestha has been elected the President of the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA).
The election was held today for the posts of President and and Senior Vice-President that have remained vacant in the governing body of Nepali football.
Mani Kunwar belonging to Shrestha group has been elected to the post of Senior Vice-President.
ANFA acting President Shrestha has defeated his close rival Karma Tshering Sherpa by a narrow margin of five votes. Of total 67 votes, Shrestha secured 36 against 31 of Sherpa.
Likewise, Kunwar defeated his contenders Deepak Khati and Upendra Man Singh to become Vice-Chairperson of the new committee. Kunwar obtained 34 votes against 25 of Khati and eight of Singh in the race.
The election was held today for the new leadership after long-serving ANFA President Ganesh Thapa was suspended for 10 years on a corruption case.
The new leadership will serve for remaining one-and-a-half-year tenure of the suspended President Thapa-led committee.
Last year, the world football body, FIFA, had suspended Thapa on the graft case banning him from all football activities for 10 years.
Newly-elected Shrestha said that his first priority is to bring support from FIFA and Asian Football Confederation to Nepali football. RSS
