President, Vice-President and PM extend greetings on Makar Sankranti
Jan 14, 2016- President Bidya Devi Bhandari, Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli have extended best wishes and greetings to all the Nepalis both at home and abroad on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, also known as Maghi among the Tharu, Chantyal and Magar community.
Issuing separate message on the occasion here on Friday, they have wished peace, happiness, good health, prosperity and continued progress to all the fellow countrymen and women.
President Bhandari, in her message, stated that it is the responsibility of everyone to conserve and promote such cultural festivity. The Head of the State believed that such festivity would help maintain fraternity and religious, social and ethnic harmony among various indigenous and nationalities across the country.
Similarly, Vice-President Pun, in his message on the same occasion, expressed the confidence that such festivals would help promote mutual social harmony and religious tolerance among the countrymen.
Pun is of the belief that the unsatisfactory voices emerging across some parts of the country regarding the new constitution would be addressed and the issues would be resolved democratically through the dialogue and consensus.
Likewise, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, in his message on the occasion of Makar Sankranti and Maghi, reminded that the government has been declaring the day as a national festival since 2064 BS.
In the message of best wishes released by the Prime Minister’s Personal Secretariat, PM Oli wished that may this festival promote unity among the countrymen.
Stating that the new national charter had ensured everyone’s economic, social and cultural rights, the PM underscored the unity for its effective implementation, more so at the complex situation like now.
Furthermore, the PM wished that may Maghi festival encourage one and all to forge unity for the sake of the country’s sovereignty and indecisiveness.
Meanwhile, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Ananda Prasad Pokharel wished all the Nepalis home and abroad on the same occasion.
Minister Pokharel has also expressed the confidence that Maghi festival would help conserve and promote various cultural practices and rituals. RSS
