Government felicitates athlete Bimala Tamang

18 October, Kathmandu : The government on Friday felicitated athlete Bimala Tamang, who won bronze medal in the 17th Asian Games held at Incheon, South Korea, with a cash prize of Rs. 1 million.

Prime Minister Sushil Koirala honoured Tamang with the cash prize and draped a shawl over her shoulder as a mark of honour at a function held at the PM’s residence in Baluwatar on Friday.

On the occasion, PM Koirala expressed belief that the sport sector would make strides in development after promulgation of a new constitution. He said that the government was committed to honouring the contribution made by athletes in sport.

Underscoring the importance of support and hard work of all sectors for rapid develoment of the sport sector, PM Koirala wished Tamang good fortune to win a gold medal in the next Asian Games.

At the programme, Minister for Youth and Sport, Purushottam Poudel, pledged to reform the defects seen in the sport sector, and congratulated victorious athlete Tamang. RSS
