KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation has prepared to write to India to inform them about the operation of the ‘Instrument Landing System (ILS)’ at Gautam BuddhA International Airport.

The Ministry revealed that it had planned to write on Friday but was unable to send it due to some internal procedures and is planning to send it on Sunday.

The government of Nepal and India have already talked about the operation of ILS at Bhairahawa Airport.

During his visit to India a week ago, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi discussed this issue.

Although discussions have taken place, it has not been decided when India will give permission for ILS operation. The correspondence is meant to specify the issue.

“Aeronautical Information Publication ‘AIP’ has been issued at Gautam Buddha International Airport and Nepal is going to write to India to inform them that technically Nepal is ready to operate this system,” Suresh Kumar Adhikari, the Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation said.

Currently, there is an agreement between Nepal and India for ‘low altitude’ 15,000 feet flight.

Adhikari informed that the Ministry has requested to facilitate the necessary air routes even for ‘high altitude’ flights above 30,000 feet.
