Information Minister Karki urges to prioritize positive news

16 August, Kathmandu:

Minister for Information and Communications Surendra Bahadur Karki has urged the media persons to disseminate positive and motivational news.

Speaking in a programme organized by the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) to extend best wishes to him, Minister Karki said that the positive news should be prioritized. He stated virtuous deeds were also taking place in the society, however, only negative news were prioritized by the media.

He further argued that the criticism on any issues should be fair and factual. Minister Karki opined that journalism was a dignified profession therefore journalists should be serious in their profession.

The working journalists should get minimum wages and media sector should also get equal status to the industry, Minister argued. The media persons working in the remote areas should be inspired, Minister Karki said.

FNJ President Dr Mahendra Bista shared that FNJ was taking steps to provide Rs 1,000 monthly to senior journalists, health insurances to journalists and scholarships to the children of journalists.

He added that these works were in progress. Dr Bista suggested the concerned bodies to implement the Mass Communication Policy and Right to Information.
Similarly, FNJ general secretary Ujir Magar urged Minister Karki to implement the minimum wages to the working journalists. RSS
